Rugby FFA takes fourth in land judging

By Staff | Aug 12, 2016

Rugby, ND- The Rugby FFA Chapter hosted the 2016 North Dakota FFA Land Judging competition last Thursday. There were 75 students represented by 12 FFA and 4-H groups throughout the state. In this competition, students judge four soil pits to determine the classes of land they are, what their potential is for agricultural use, and how to improve them by giving recommendations to boost soil health. The Rugby team consisting of Abagail Volk, Brett Berginski, McKenzie Tuenge, Isaac Volk, Brady Volk, and Katherine Filler took 4th place overall, and was led by Filler, who took second-highest in the competition. A special thanks goes out to Joanne Geisinger and Jim Teigen for letting the students use their land to judge on and to B&J Excavating for digging the soil pits.
