Rugby Actress Takes Superior Performer Award
Rugby High School’s One-Act Play team fell short at the state competition, but one team member was able to walk away with an award.
Sophomore Madalyn Pretzer won a Superior Performer award at the competition.
Pretzer said it was the first time she won the award.
“I was kind of surprised,” Pretzer said. “Two others (Maria Mack and Alissa Volk) got [the award] at Regionals and I wasn’t one of them.”
Head Coach Jill Roberts said: “Madalyn is one of those people who are always full of sunshine. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her in a sour mood. Her optimism and sense of humor lifted the whole team. She is not only naturally talented, but she works hard. She was one of the first kids to have her lines memorized, and she was a joy to direct. I’m so proud of her and all the kids.”
According to Roberts, Rugby’s play, “Caution: Politricks” was just one point shy of making the final rounds in the state competition, held Nov. 23 and 24 in Jamestown.
“Win or lose, [play members] kept a positive attitude, they supported each other and their fellow thespians from other schools and were just fun people to be around,” Roberts said. “It was a great year, and we look forward to next year!”
Pretzer has been active in one-act plays since freshman year, and is also active in Speech.
“[One-Act]’s a wonderful experience,” Pretzer said. “I would encourage people to try it.”
