Bemidji State announces scholarship recipients

Bemidji State University announced on June 11 that more than 20 students, both current and incoming, will receive foundation scholarships for the 2014-15 school year. Scholarships are based on outstanding achievement, rather than financial need.

Hunter Parcel, of Rugby, received an M. Fern Birnstihl Scholarship award of $500. He will be a freshman this fall, majoring in vocal performance.

Parcel is the son of Paul and Jodi Schaan, of Rugby.

NDSCS announces President’s Honor List

Area students were among 319 others on North Dakota State College of Science’s President’s Honor List for spring semester 2014.

From Leeds: Kevin Slaubaugh, John Deere tech.

From York: Dylan Eckert, John Deere tech.

From Willow City: Joel Niewoehner, electrical technology

To qualify for the Honor List, students must achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher while taking at least 12 credit hours.

Early Learning Center signups underway

The Rugby Public School District has received a $50,000 school improvement grant to help offset the costs of the new Rugby Early Learning Center. The Rugby Early Learning Center is a full day preschool program that will operate Monday Thursday beginning this fall. This was a competitive grant and only 10 schools were selected from across the state. This one-time grant will go a long way to help provide high quality preschooling for the Rugby area. The program is free for parents that have children ages 3-5. We are currently accepting applications for the fall and have a few spots remaining. Wolford School Board elections on June 24

Wolford Public School District No. 1 will hold an annual school board election from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Wolford School (401 3rd Ave. SW, Wolford). Up for election is one member, who will serve a three-year term.
