Wolford FBLA Chapter attends SLC
Members of the Wolford Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter attended the ND FBLA State Leadership Conference in Grand Forks, March 30 April 1. Over fifty FBLA chapters from across the state participated in this conference, where approximately 1,200 students had the opportunity to test their business skills against other students from around the state.
FBLA is a professional organization for students interested in pursuing business careers. This year’s theme of “Excellence in Action,” reflects the goals of FBLA members, some of the best and brightest of today’s young people. Its mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. To learn more, visit FBLA’s website at www.nd-fbla.org or visit us on Facebook at ND FBLA. The Wolford Chapter has a Facebook page as well. The most exciting aspect of the conference is the competitive events program. Students have the opportunity to test the business skills they’ve learned in the classroom in a variety of individual, team, and chapter events. Students can enter events such as accounting, computer applications, public speaking, job interview, website development, or networking concepts. The culmination of the competitive events program is the awards ceremony where winners are recognized for their accomplishments. In addition to the competitive events program, students had the opportunity to attend workshops, business tours, and college tours. A new team of state officers were also elected at the conference.
Hannah Walsh and Madison Marchus participated in two team events, Digital Design & Promotion, and Business Presentation. Kenzie Halvorson participated in FBLA Principles & Procedures and Desktop Publishing. Tonya Slaubaugh competed in Business Communication and Computer Problem Solving. Devon Olson competed in Agribusiness and Business Procedures. Josh Morrow competed in Agribusiness and Cybersecurity. Rylan Graber participated in Agribusiness and Accounting I. Alyssa Graber completed the Computer Applications test prior to the conference.
Our chapter took home several awards. The Wolford Chapter received the Marketshare award for having the highest percentage (100%) of high school students in FBLA. Our chapter also received the North Dakota Bronze award in the “North Dakota Go for the Gold” program. We also received the Membership Achievement Award for FBLA membership support and growth. We received several individual awards as well. Tonya received 1st in Business Communication, Hannah & Madison received 4th in Business Presentation, Alyssa received 5th in Computer Applications. Rylan received 7th in Agribusiness. Kenzie received 9th in FBLA Principles & Procedures.
