Wolford student qualifies for state geography bee

Wolford sixth-grader Kyle Yoder qualified to participate on the state level of the National Geo Bee.

The state bee was held on Friday, April 5, on the campus of the University of Mary in Bismarck.

Yoder joined 99 other students for preliminaries at 1 p.m., where most of the questions were oral. The top 10 highest scores advance to the finals.

The finals are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. and lasted around 45 minutes.

One winner from each state will advance to the national competition, which takes place Washington D.C. from May 20-22.

The final round of the national competition will be moderated by Alex Trebek and will air on the National Geographic Channel on May 23.

Rugby Public Schools early

out April 10

The fourth early out of the year will take place at Rugby Public Schools on April 10.

In coordination with the school improvement committee, students will be released at 1 p.m.

From 1:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Superintendent Mike McNeff will welcome staff and introduce the day’s program. Staff members will do Professional Learning Community presentations, followed by 2013-14 school year goals and an Adequate Yearly Progress update from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Buses will pick up at Little Flower, then Ely Elementary and finally at Rugby High School.

School extended

for final six Wednesdays

Rugby Public Schools will be extending the school day by 30 minutes starting on April 17 and for every ensuing Wednesday of the year.

The extended days will allow Rugby Public School District to make up the time for early releases and late starts due to weather. The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction requires all public school districts to make up time due to weather releases.

School will be released 30 minutes late in both Ely Elementary and Rugby Junior High and High School on April 17 and 24 and May 1, 8, 15, and 22.
