Rugby places second at Region 4 one-act competition

Eight schools participated in the Region Four one-act play competition in Rugby Thursday, November 4.

Harvey High School came out on top with their play “Next Actor, Please!” Rugby High School, performing “But We Don’t,” was awarded second place. Both schools will advance to the state competition in Grand Forks at the end of the month.

Lakota finished in third place and Starkweather took fourth. Other schools in the competition were Wolford, Minnewaukan, Maddock, Langdon, and Leeds.

Superior acting awards were given to Alex Beecroft, Minnewaukan; Ashlyn Hiltner, Lakota; Ben Backstrom, Maddock; Susan Hiltner, Langdon; Brian Anderson, Harvey; Bethany Plemel, Starkweather; and Taylor Armstrong, Wolford.

In addition, the entire Rugby cast received superior acting awards. Cast members are David Miller, Janessa Veach, Rachel Mack, Tashal Trottier, Maddie Cameron, Hunter Parcel, Darby Deckert, Ashley Houim, Shayanna Veach, Brittney Kleespie, Nolan Hovland, Kirstan Salwey,

Benji Miller, Marissa Rude, Jessica Harmel, ReeAnn Christianson, Aubrey Hovland, Jenna Fossum, Zach Miller, Rachel Hoffert, Kelsey Schmaltz, Tanner Lind, and Sami Rozmarynowski.

Honorable mention went to Brody Cavanaugh, Minnewaukan; Nigel Christianson, Lakota; Zach Eyl, Maddock; and the entire Harvey cast.

Shannon Miller directed the Rugby entry and Emily Pfeifer ran lights. Angel Moore of Harvey was selected Region Four Director of the Year.
