National Honor Society students held fundraiser

By Staff | Nov 12, 2010

Eleven National Honor Society students at Rugby High School and their advisor participated in a fundraiser on Oct. 24 raking leaves for community members. The event raised $250.

It was unanimously decided by the students to donate the money raised to “Bushels for the Boys,” a local charity started by rural Rugby farmer Mark Koenig.

The idea for “Bushels for the Boys” came to Koenig after spending time at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at a Minneapolis hospital where his grandson, Tucker, was a patient.

Two other Rugby families also had children who were receiving care for illnesses, Aspen Heisler, son of Levi and Randi Heisler, and Pierce Casavant, son of Jonathan and Amy Casavant. All three families spent time together at the Ronald McDonald House in Minneapolis.

By giving a bushel or more of grain, donors can help to defray medical and travel expenses for all three boys. Donations of this type can be made at the Rugby Farmers Elevator. Monetary donations are also welcome, and an account is set up at Merchants Bank, Rugby, for those wishing to donate.
