Rugby to host Region 4 one-act
It’s that time of year again for the Rugby High School Drama Club to rehearse for the regional one-act competition to be held in Rugby play on Thursday, Nov. 4.
Eight schools will participate, including Wolford, Minnewaukan, Lakota, Starkweather, Maddock, Langdon, Leeds, and Rugby. The top two teams will move on to the state competition in Grand Forks at the end of November.
About the play
The students will perform for the public on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 8:30 p.m. in the Tilman Hovland Auditorium. Cost is $1.00 for students and $2.00 for adults.
The play is called “But We Don’t” written by Alan Haehnel, and produced with permission from Playscripts, Inc., out of New York. The play is based on a conversation a bunch of teenagers have about all the things they could do, but don’t.
Cast members have been hard at work since the third week of September, and have their goals set for making it to the state competition.
In the past, Rugby has done well at regionals. Last year, Harvey and Rugby were the top two teams and moved on to state, where Rugby advanced to the finals, placing sixth.
Rugby’s cast is quite a bit larger than they’ve had in the past. Cast members are: David Miller, Janessa Veach, Rachel Mack, Tashal Trottier, Maddie Cameron, Hunter Parcel, Darby Deckert, Ashley Houim, Shayanna Veach, Brittney Kleespie, Nolan Hovland, Kirstan Salwey, Benji Miller, Marissa Rude, Jessica Harmel, ReeAnn Christianson, Aubrey Hovland, Jenna Fossum, Zach Miller, Rachel Hoffert, Kelsey Schmaltz, Tanner Lind, and Sami Rozmarynowski, with Emily Pfeifer running the lights. The play is being directed by Shannon Miller.
