By Staff | Nov 30, 2009

Rugby reached the final round of the Class B state one-act play competition for the first time since 1998, and the group placed a respectable seventh at the event held Nov. 23-24 in Bismarck-Mandan.

“There are 20 teams that compete and the top eight reach the finals,” said Shannon Miller, Rugby director.?”Even the judges emphasized that reaching the final day is accomplishing something.”

The cast and crew who performed included: Rachel Mack, Rachel Hoffert, Zach Rameden, Anne Schmaltz, Janessa Veach, Abi Jenkins, Theresa Mack, Aubrey Hovland, Crystal Hovland, Jenna Fossum, Zach Miller, Ashley Houim, David Miller, Tashal Trottier and Keenan Sattler.

Rugby presented its play, “The Apple”, twice. The preliminary round was on Nov. 23 at the University of Mary while the finals were held at Mandan High School the following day.

Senior Theresa Mack was also awarded a superior acting award at the event.

Enderlin won the competition.

Rugby has reached the state competition every year but once since 1996. However, this marked just the third time it has advanced to the finals. The school did win the competition in 1996.
