Rugby to host Region 4 One-Act competition
Rugby’s one-act play cast has some big shoes to fill when it performs this Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Class B Region 4 competition held in Rugby.
Rugby won last year’s competition and the entire cast received high praise from the judges, earning an ensemble award for superior acting.
That’s a tough act to follow, but Shannon Miller, Rugby director, has another talented group of performers this year.
“I think this group will do well, but there is a lot of other schools who have made it (to state before),’ Miller said. “It’s a competition, but it’s about performing and entertaining the audience.”
Rugby will present the one act, “The Apple”, which takes place in an art museum and features several eccentric art patrons who mistakenly believe one misplaced apple could be both a prized and “dangerous” exhibit.
The cast and crew includes: Zach Rameden (who plays the janitor), Jenna Fossum (moocher), Anne Schmaltz (intercom voice and mime), Janessa Veach (Sisky), Abi Jenkins (Ebee), Levin Bachman-Williams (Rope), Theresa Mack (Moonshot), David Miller (Elvis), Aubrey Hovland (Peevish), Crystal Hovland (Petula), Tashal Trottier (Curly), Ashley Houim (Lara), Rachel Hoffert (Mona); Keenan Sattler, lighting technician.
Prior to the regional, a performance will be given to the community this Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the Tilman Hovland Auditorium. Admission is $2.
In addition to Rugby, seven other one-act teams, including Wolford and Leeds, will participate in the regional one act competition which begins at 9 a.m. this Thursday, Nov. 5.
Other teams to perform include: Bottineau, Maddock, Harvey, Starkweather and Minnewaukan.
The top two performances selected by judges will advance to the Class B one-act competition Nov. 23-24 in Bismarck-Mandan.
