Ely Elementary’s Title One before-and-after-school program to begin
Beginning this Monday, Aug. 31, Ely Elementary will offer a Title One before-and-after-school program.
The morning session will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Monday thru Friday. The afternoon session will be offered Monday thru Thursday and be available from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
It’s first open to Title One-identified students, but if there is room, the program will be available to all K-6 students, says Deb Goven, Title One teacher, who will oversee the morning session. Title one teacher Alyson Schepp will supervise the afternoon session.
The program has been in the works for quite some time, but it became a reality, in large part, through additional federal Title One grants, and a willingness from Title One teachers to be available to staff it, says Jason Gullickson, Ely Elementary principal.
Title One concentrates on student improvement in the areas of math and reading. During the day, Title One students work with Title One teachers on a specific curriculum to help them improve in those subject areas.
The before-and-after-school Title One program, however, will allow participating students to bring in their school work and get assistance from teachers.
Parents are encouraged to have their children use the program, which is free. For more information, contact Ely Elementary at 776-5757.
