Wolford district receives $42,000 in grant funds

By Staff | Jul 30, 2009

A one-time supplemental grant totaling $42,000 may not seem like much, but it’s a big boost to the revenue ledger for a school district such as Wolford.

The funds, which are part of the government’s financial stimulus package, will be used to purchase textbooks and workbooks at the school as well as make needed building repairs, says Larry Zavada, school superintendent.

The projects include installing new tile in the school’s main hallway as well as in the science room. About $6,000 will go to a new door for the fuel oil boiler. Insulation will also be installed in an elementary classroom. The district has until 2010 to spend the money.

The district also received approximately $16,000 in grants tied to the Title One program, which helps students who need additional instruction in math and reading. Zavada said those funds will go toward a new computer and curriculum supplies.
