Rugby students ‘star’ at state
Rugby High School instrumental and vocal students participated in the State Music Festival on the Minot State campus on May 2. There were over 1,100 events among the vocal, instrumental and strings. Sudents from all over the state participated.
Rugby came away with seven instrumental and strings Star ratings. Theresa Mack was also recognized as outstanding trumpet soloist. Those receiving a Star rating were: Brooks McClintock, tuba; Shelby Deckert, bari sax; French horn, Kristie Black; trumpet, Theresa Mack; and David Miller, alto sax. A flute ensemble, including Jacie Mundahl, Alyssa Bergnski, Kristin Migler, Rachel Hoffert, Emily Steen, McKenzie Cameron and Anja Selland, and a brass ensemble, consisting of Kristie Black, Crystal Hovland, Brooks McClintock, Theresa Mack, Zach Rameden and Keenan Sattler, both received Star ratings. Kristie Black also received a Star for her violin solo, and the violin duet of Mack and Abi Jenkins received a star.
Participants receiving an Excellent rating were Marne Johnson, Abigail Jenkins, Chelsea Halvorson, Nicole Hooker, Laura Hoffert and Kelsey Leier.
Rugby High School was represented by 15-20 vocal students at the State Music Festival. They competed in nine different events, and seven received Star ratings. This was Rugby’s best showing in many years.
