Rugby music students have successful month
The past two weeks have been busy for the music department.
Aubrey Hovland and Rachel Mack performed with the Jr. High All-State Band at Mandan High School on March 14, along with over 80 instrumentalists chosen throughout the state.
The junior high band and choir participated in the Devils Lake Music Festival a few days later. This was a very successful outing with the following junior high band students receiving the highest “Star” rating: Hannah Christenson, Aubrey Hovland, Kris Leier, Amber Jaeger, Tanner Lind, Rachel Mack, Brandon Matties, Benjamin Miller, Emily Pfeifer, Kelsey Schmaltz, Carleen Shively, and Kayla Voeller. Amber Jaeger received an “Excellent” rating for her trumpet solo, and Rachel Mack received the “Outstanding Performance” award for her French horn solo. Rachel Mack and Aubrey Hovland received the “Outstanding Performance” award for their French horn duet.
The following vocal soloists received a “Star” rating: Brittany Belgarde, Rachel Mack, Shayanna Veach, who also received the “Outstanding Performance” award; Kayla Voeller, Patricia Pfeifer, Tashal Trottier. Haley Cotton received an “Excellent” rating for her vocal solo. In addition, one vocal ensemble received a “Star” rating, and three ensembles received an “Excellent” rating.
The following students were part of the vocal ensembles: Jenna Fossum, Kodi Harmel, Emily Pfeifer, Laura Fritel, Katie Karnopp, Rachel Schmaltz, Kayla Koehmstedt, Rachel Mack, Aubrey Hovland, Allison Leer, Tashal Trottier, Haley Mygland, Brittany Belgarde, Patricia Pfeifer, Shayanna Veach, Haley Cotton, Morgan Bundy, Hunter Parcel, Benji Miller, and Kayla Voeller.
On March 20, Pep Band traveled to Minot to play for the State Class B Basketball Tournament. The band played well and were warmly receive by the crowd.
On March 22, Mr. Fulsebakke took Crystal Hovland, Abigail Jenkins and Theresa Mack to the All-State Band and Choir Festival in Bismarck. Anne Schmaltz was also chosen as an all-state winner but did not attend due to illness. There were excellent concerts each night and afternoon, culminating with the final performances featuring the Women’s Choir, Concert Band, Mixed Choir and Orchestra.
