Rugby to host Region 4 speech meet

By Staff | Apr 1, 2009

Rugby will host the Region 4 speech meet on Saturday, April 4, beginning at 9 a.m., and the local team has a good chance to defend its title again.

The team has 95 entries in the various categories. Several students are doubling up in events, according to Bonita Lindseth, Rugby speech team advisor.

Lindseth said her students select the categories they want to compete in, and sometimes that means several end up competing against fellow students. “That’s not ideal when it comes to trying to score points for the team awards, but we always want our students to participate in the categories they like,’ she said.

Twelve other schools are taking part, including neighboring Wolford and Rolette. The others are: Lakota, Minnewaukan, North Star (Cando), Adams-Edmore, Starkweather, Munich, Langdon, St. John and Maddock.

Lindseth said Lakota and Langdon will have a lot of entries as well. The top two place winners in the finals will qualify for the Class B meet later this spring.
