Area students named to academic all-state teams
Rugby senior Marne Johnson was recently selected to the Class B academic all-state gold team as determined by the N.D. Association of Secondary School Principals.
Johnson is the daughter of Dwight and Julie Johnson, rural Rugby. She was one of nine selected for the gold team. There were also nine each on the silver and bronze teams.
Towner senior Annie Klebe was an honorable mention as was Whitney Walsh, of Wolford; and Mitch Smette of Granville.
Annie is the daughter Lloyd and Julie Klebe. Whitney is the daughter of Jeff and Lynn Walsh; and Mitch is the son of Jeff and Miriam Smette.
The students are nominated by their high school principal and selection is based on grade point average, ACT or SAT test scores, extracurricular activities, community involvement and leadership qualities.
Gold, silver and bronze team members will be presented a certificate of merit by the NDASSP. In addition, the NBC North Dakota Television sports network will present a medallion to each team member during the “Parade of Academic Champions” at the Class A state basketball tournament in Fargo on March 13 in Fargo, and the Class B state tournament in Minot on March 20.
Certificates of merit will be sent to those students who were honorable mention.
