RELAY FOR LIFE: Truckin’ for a cure

By Staff | May 27, 2016

Angie Busch, team captain for Truckin’ for a Cure, has been participating in Relay for Life for the past 11 or 12 years. She does so in memory of her first husband, her parents and herself, all of whom have been affected by cancer.

“I myself am a survivor,” said Busch. “I feel it’s a way to remember those who are no longer with us and to just honor and support those who have faced a cancer diagnosis.”

Her story of survival isn’t unusual.

“A lot of the team members have been affected,” said Busch.

Busch’s explanation as to why people participate in this event is simple: “They relay because they want to see an end to cancer.”

The team Truckin’ for a Cure uses their creativity to help increase their donations.

“Our team raises money with two craft fairs, one in the spring and one in the fall,” said Busch. “It is our major fundraiser.”

Additionally, the team members ask individuals for donations for the luminaria, which are lit for someone who has passed away or for someone who is a survivor.

Relay for Life’s mission is one of hope.

“It brings people together that raise money to prevent cancer, save lives and diminish suffering from the disease,” said Busch.

While one may think that it’s too late to get involved, she assures that it is an all-inclusive event.

“You don’t have to be a member of a team to come,” said Busch. “Everyone’s welcome.”
