As we move forward in our Lenten season, I am reminded that we need to recognize the amazing sacrifice that God gave to us, that of his Son, Jesus Christ.

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:22)

As human beings, it’s so easy to get angry at someone. People hurt us, we hurt other people. It is the nature of being human. We were all created with free will, free thought, and sometimes we don’t agree with each other. Change also tends to cause some of that anger or hurt. But it is so important that we forgive each other, as God forgives us. Why? Peace of mind for one thing.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 ESV)

As we reflect upon the cross, we need to remember that it was our sin that condemned Jesus. Yet, he freely gave his life for us.

Remember, “And Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.’ And they cast lots to divide his garments.” (Luke 23:34 ESV)

Sometimes we spend the whole of our lives angry at what others have done to us. That anger ultimately destroys us. It is so important to extend that forgiveness. Grace is unmerited favor. What this means is that we neither deserve it nor earn it. Work hard this season extending that grace to others, truly loving those who have hurt you. When you forgive those who have no reason to deserve it, you will be cleansed. I can promise that your healing is worth it.

I challenge each of you to go out of your way and pick someone who needs your forgiveness the most. Open your hearts and share your thoughts. I am sure that there are those in your life that need to hear it.

May you have a blessed Lenten season.
