The Degree of Honor Juveniles had their annual Christmas party Friday evening at the Memorial Hall with 65 children present. Miss Nettie Ellingson, past grand president of the Degree of Honor, was a special guest. The affair began with a banquet, the serving committee consisting of Mesdames E.S. Huffman, J.G. McClintock, Geo. Brundage, and John McBride and Miss Margarette Hoff.

The tables were beautifully decorated in the Christmas theme.

Following the banquet, games and entertainment took up the balance of the evening with Mrs. Harold Walland, juvenile director, and her assistant, Mrs. Arthur Ellingson, in charge.

Thursday, Dec. 13, 1962

Mrs. Gary Browning (nee Maureen McGuire), a senior at Colorado State College in Greeley, has recently received her student teaching assignment. Beginning Jan. 2, Mrs. Browning will be teaching a fifth grade class at Mountain View Grade School in Longmont, Colo.

Mr. Browning is an instructor of instrumental music in the Longmont school system.

For the fourth straight month, discussion on site authorization for games of chance at the Shadow I Bar was tabled by the city council Monday, December 7.

According to the agenda for the regular monthly meeting, the council was set to hear a “report of City Community Development Committee concerning site authorization application for games of chance to be located at the Shadow I premises at 127 South Main Avenue.”

However, Rugby Mayor Dave Shelver said the committee, consisting of himself and aldermen Dale Niewoehner and Ron Lake, had been unable to meet since the November meeting.

Ron Heisler, the owner of Shadow I Bar, questioned the length of time the mayor and the council was taking in considering the proposed site.

Heisler also presented a questionnaire to the council from which he had gotten responses the afternoon before the meeting from the downtown businesses whether they were in favor of a games of chance site at his premises.

Heisler said he got the impression from Shelver at the November meeting the downtown businesses did not want a downtown games of chance site.
