While everyone who knows the genial editor of the Register to be a man of exceptional truth and veracity, there are some who feel that a little corroborating evidence would not be amiss in this case, as to just how the deer came to be up in the tree.

Thursday, Dec. 6, 1962

Hans Alterskjaer, who is attended Rugby High School this year as an exchange student from Norway, will speak to the high school students Dec. 13. Hans plans to show a movie about his home town, Mo i Rana, and to take some time telling about his country. The program will be at 3 p.m. in the armory, according to high school principal Del Easton.

The public is invited to attend.

Rugby regained its theatre over the weekend as the Centre Cinema reopened under new ownership.

The theatre, which closed early last summer, was purchased by Bob and Eric Nostdahl of Bottineau and Doug Hamnes, Minot. The new owners took over Saturday, Dec. 5. One of the first presentations on the silver screen was a free matinee movie for children Saturday. The free holiday matinees continue at 1 and 3 p.m. this Saturday (December 12) and next Saturday (December 19). Local merchants are sponsoring the holiday matinees.

Eric Nostdahl is no stranger to the Centre Cinema, having managed the business for former owner Don Christianson in 1980. The theatre’s operations will now be managed by Ted Miller, Rugby.

The Centre Cinema closed for a variety of reasons, including a downturn in ticket sales.

The new owners are planning to do some work on the theatre building’s roof and the ceiling of the cavernous interior. Cleaning and preparation for opening was underway all last week.

The first film being shown, aside from the children’s matinees is “Beverly Hills Cop II”.

The new owners are being represented by a booking agent from Minneapolis, Nostdahl said. Hopefully, using the agent will help the theatre obtain first run movies early.
