Two injured in crash near Leeds

Two men were injured last week when a 2014 International truck rear-ended a 1972 Chevrolet C63 straight truck on US Highway 2 near Leeds.

According to the N.D. Highway Patrol Brian Bjerke, 62, Leeds, was driving southbound-in the outside lane and increasing speed-on 62nd Ave NE in the Chevrolet before turning west onto Hwy 2. Edward Kelly, Jr., 47, Dardanelle, Ark., was also westbound on Hwy 2 and his International truck did not change lanes to pass the slower-moving Chevrolet.

Kelly's vehicle struck Bjerke's on the rear passenger side and entered the north ditch. Bjerke's vehicle crossed the center of the road and came to rest in the median.

Kelly sustained serious injuries and was transported by Leeds Ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake before being airlifted to Altru in Grand Forks.

The N.D. Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
