basketball team ended their regular season on a high note last week, winning 58-34 over the North Star Bearcats at home.

The Panthers set the tone early with a bucket from downtown from guard Anni Stier. Bearcat guard Brenna Bulman responded with a 2-point bucket just seconds later.

The Panthers then solidified their lead on an 11-3 run. A half-court shot from guard Maria Blessum put the Panthers ahead 18-8 at the end of the first quarter.

The ensuing quarter saw both squads go scoreless for over two minutes until Panther forward Brooke Blessum hit a bucket. The Panthers would hold the lead, however the scoring output would be closer at 10-9.

The third quarter saw the Bearcats' only double-digit scoring output of the night at 11, with forward Mya Halverson accounting for five points and guard Stephanie Miller accounting for four.

The Panthers were able to hit 11 3-pointers on the night, with three of them in the fourth quarter. The Panther defense was able to hold the Bearcats to just six points on the quarter while the offense hit 15.

"Overall I thought defensively we stayed the course," said Panthers head coach Jen Brossart. "We stayed where we had to be, we kept our eye on Miller and we knew where everybody else was."

The Panthers, who are the top seed in District 11, were on the court Friday for the district girls basketball tournament in Velva, and will be again today with the title of district champion up for grabs. The top four teams will advance to the Region 6 tournament, which will be held Feb. 19, 20 and 22 in Minot.
