County learns of jail profit, community service hours

In a regular meeting Tuesday morning, the Pierce County Board of County Commissioners learned of another profitable month for the jail as well as hours completed in the community service program.

The Heart of America Correctional & Treatment Center accrued $232,120.07 in revenue in November. After $221,286.39 in expenses, the facility's profit was $10,833.68, HACTC Administrator Mike Graner informed the board Tuesday. The average daily population for that month was 104, however in December the average was 111.

Community Service Coordinator Allen Meckle informed the board that in 2017 over 3,300 hours of community service was completed at worksites in Bottineau, Pierce, McHenry and Rolette counties. Meckle said he had 11 new clients in December; that he attended a victim-witness advocate conference in Portland; and that a Community Service Program advisory board meeting was being scheduled.

Pierce County Water Resource Board members Bill Deck, Joe Bohl and Ron Kremer informed the board that the upper Sheyenne board increased their dues from $1,600 per year to $3,300 per year.

Other actions

- The board approved the pledge of assets from Bremer, Merchants and Ramsey banks.

- The board accepted bids from Paul Zeien for $1,675 for a Chevy pickup and from Jason Miller for $200 for a John Deere mower.

- The board approved payments of $34,941.72 to Knife River Materials and $39 to Rugby Veterinary Service.

- The board approved abatement applications for Steve Schneider and Neil Lotvedt; Michael Hughes; Stranford Harmel; Patty Lou Schell; Loretta Aamodt and Melinda Jelsing.

- The board approved transfers of $20,000 from the Wireless fund to the E-9-1-1 fund; and $142,445.81 from County Poor Relief to the general fund.

- The board approved December 2017 meeting minutes, bills, financial statements and treasurers checks.
