Panther wrestlers compete in Velva tournament

Rugby High School's wrestling team competed in their first tournament of the season in Velva last week.

In the 126 weight class, Riley Zachmeier placed first. In the Semifinals Zachmeier won round 1 over Nicholai Topolski by a pin. In round 5, Zachmeier won by a technical fall over Elijah Horner (Velva). He tech'd 19-3 in 2:30 minutes. The 1st place match went to Zachmeier (Rugby) over Braedon Gumke (Watford City).

Other matches final results were:

* 145 lbs: Joey Berg took 5th place, winning over Antonio Garcia (Watford City) by decision.

* 152 lbs: Dylan Grove took 5th place, winning over Nick Fiedler (Watford City)

* 160 lbs: - Kaden Jaeger defeated Hunter Schwartzenberger (Watford City), Ethan Myers (Mondak Thunder) and Ethan Zablotney (Harvey-Wells County) by pins.

* 182 lbs: - Cole Schneibel won the 7th place match over Carson Farhart (Stanley).

In the final 285 weight class, D.J. Schneibel lost to Wyatt Wilenbring (Minot) in the first place match. In the quarterfinal rounds, D.J. (Rugby) defeated Kutter Blumhagen (Velva), however he was pinned in round 2 by Jackson Faller (Watford City). In round 3 D.J. (Rugby) defeated Zachary Grice (Harvey-Wells County) by pin, and in Round 4 he (Rugby) won over Keegan Henjum (Bishop Ryan-Minot) by technical fall.

They competed the following Thursday in Bishop Ryan and in Kenmare on Friday. Their next action is on Dec 15 and 16 in Linton.
