District 14 Legislative Reports

By Staff | Mar 10, 2017

Day 42 is upon us here at the Legislature. Tomorrow, we will hear what the new revenue projections look like. This final projection will provide the final roadmap to completing the budgeting process. Indications at this point suggest a sort of dark projection. Sources suggest we may need to find additional revenue. We will see.

Committees continue to work at getting all of the bills heard and acted on. There are still 210 bills in committee in the Senate, with 208 bills left in committee in the House. The hope is that these bills will be acted on and heard on the floor of their respective chambers within the next few weeks. At that point, if there are changes on either side, conference committees will be appointed to air out the differences.

There have been a number of issues in our committee, from non-coverage of marijuana for an injured worker on workers’ compensation to requiring all employers to submit their unemployment contribution reports electronically. We also have covered an issue for our county mutual insurance companies, when it comes to insuring non-residential property that is part of an existing policy. It’s always somewhat interesting to me that some issues that seem so common sense need legislation to provide clarity. I guess that’s what we mean by the letter of the law.

Thanks for the messages. Keep in touch,

Sen. Jerry Klein
