Rose was born on August 20, 1926 on the family farm near Orrin, ND, the first of 15 children born to Christian and Anna (Miller) Mitzel. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school. She helped her mother with the daily chores and being the oldest child she helped care for her younger siblings. She grew up during the

difficult years of the Great Depression and the Dirty Thirties in the Orrin area. This life experience molded her into the loving, caring and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, mother-in-law and friend that she became.

Rose married Mathias (Matt) Koble on October 15, 1946 at Orrin. They lived near Rugby for two years. The next three years they lived and farmed near Drake before

moving to a farm north of Martin in 1951. They bought the Bert Calkins farm and became the parents of seven children, Dianne, Clinton, Alvin, Richard, Yvonne, Collette

and Marilyn. Rose helped with the farming chores including milking cows for many years. Her gardening, canning and baking talents were honed first as necessities and

then became special gifts for family and friends. Wedding kuchen, creamed chicken, caramel rolls, cured chicken, home canned green beans and meat marinades were

the "best." Rose's guests enjoyed her finest efforts. She also enjoyed crocheting. Rose was also the record keeper on the farm. She kept track of the cows and calves and helped out vaccinating and sorting. Her weather diary revealed weather conditions and precipitation from days gone by.

Rose was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Church in Anamoose. She served on the church council several years and was active in the circle. She served on the White

Township Election Committee and drove bus for the White Township school.

Rose is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, Clinton and Karen of Reno, NV, Alvin and Karen of Harvey, Richard and Deb of Martin; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Dianne Giroux of Sawyer, Yvonne Koble of Chicago, IL, Collette and Nick Hertz of Harvey, Marilyn and Clyde Vetter of New Richmond, WI; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; six brothers, Mike of Towner, Joe of Minot, Leo of Seattle, Eddy of Colorado Springs, Gerald of Rugby, Bradley of Dryden, VA Virginia; five sisters, Theresa Burgard of Rugby, Fran Weinand of Minot, Cecilia Bruner of Drake, Opal Bachmeier of Minot, Rita Schiele of Velva.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Matt on August 20, 1985; infant brother, Clement; brother, Richard; sister, Tillie Schmaltz, son-in-law, Glen Giroux.

Memorials are preferred to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, P.O. Box 49, Anamoose, ND 58710
