LETTER: Stop and see care center residents

By Staff | Jan 6, 2017

I am living at the Rugby HAMC Care Center (Nursing Home) along with many other residents. The care here is excellent and we have many skilled and compassionate staff attending to us. I am writing to you the public about one thing that I can see that you can help with.

We all have had to leave our homes as we need 24-hour care at this point in our lives. We also had to forego the ability to be out and about and going to see our old friends and family. I want to tell you how important it is to us to have people stop and visit us. Even a short visit of 15 or 20 minutes will really help break up the day.

Many people come to Rugby for appointments or shopping but maybe don’t think of making an extra few minutes to stop and bring some joy to one of the residents. It means so much to have someone stop.

I have been very blessed to have friends and family stop quite often but some of my fellow residents have little to no visitors and my heart really goes out to them. Most of us like pets and love it when someone brings a pet to let us hold. We also enjoy music and if you have a gift of music to share we would love to have you share it.

Because we are out of sight, we can also end up being out of mind, so let me encourage you to think about blessing a resident with your gift of time or talent. It means so much to us.

By the way, if we are taking a nap, wake us up, we have lots of time to sleep.
