9-man football roundup

November 4, 2016
Pierce County Tribune

The final four teams in 9-man football are playing today. Of the four, only two will advance to the State Championship on Nov. 11 at the Fargodome.

In a battle of undefeateds, the Thompson Tommies take on the Shiloh Christian Skyhawks, while the undefeated North Prairie (Rolette-Wolford-Rolla) Cougars take on the 9-1 New Salem-Glen Ullin Holsteins.

To advance, the Tommies had to defeat the Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter Imperials last week. Senior quarterback Calen Schwabe delivered, leading the Tommies to a 52-0 shutout over the Imperials.

Schwabe started things off by finding classmate and tight end Collin Grote on a 47-yard connection. He would then run the ball himself for 32 yards on another play, and find sophomore wideout Cadyn Schwabe on a 40-yard toss. He would later connect with junior tight end Cole Sorby on another pass to put the game out of reach before halftime.

North Prairie had to contend with the Kenmare-Bowbells-Burke Central Honkers, whom they defeated, 46-12.

The Honkers did not have an answer early on for Cougars' senior quarterback Brody Cahill, who opened both quarters of the first half and the third quarter on keepers.

The Honkers would respond to Cahill's second keeper with senior quarterback Hunter Rodin finding classmate Kolton Jesz on a 10-yard passing play. Rodin himself would have a keeper late in the third quarter.
