Letter: Support long term care by voting Weisz, Nelson

May 13, 2016
Shelly Peterson , Pierce County Tribune

Soon all citizens living in District 14 will have the important task of voting who they wish to have on the ballot for the general election. Having so many choices is excellent and will require citizens to really look and examine who they think can best represent them.

From my perspective, both Jon Nelson and Robin Weisz have done an excellent job and should have your serious consideration. Jon has been a strong advocate of assuring a safety net of services and funding for citizens in need of long term care. We all hope to be independent throughout our lives and never need help. We hang on to that independence with our might. But suddenly, then comes the day and without warning we need help. Our state has built and funded an excellent system of long term care, and Jon has worked long and hard to assure rural North Dakota is part of that system.

Robin Weisz worked hard and tirelessly to improve funding for individuals in need of basic care. Through his hard leadership he assured funding was increased to allow North Dakota residents who needed rehabilitation after a stroke, heart attack or other health event to get the services they need. These days, called medical leave days, were increased in basic care to assure those facing a crisis in their health go the services they need. As Chair of House Human Services, his seniority and leadership has served District 14 and all of North Dakota very well.

We hope citizens of District 14 will return Representatives Nelson and Weisz to the legislature in 2017. North Dakota will be facing tough decisions in the 2017 session. The leadership and experience of Nelson and Weisz is needed.

Shelly Peterson,

President, North Dakota Long Term Care Association
