Eighteen students represented Rugby High School last week at the State Class B Speech Meet in Mandan.

Of the 18, six made it to finals and placed, which helped the team take 7th out of 77 schools.

Nine students-Jacob Christianson, Thor and Elizabeth Skjelver, Kate Heidlebaugh, Alissa Volk, Madalyn Pretzer, Maria Mack, Kaitlyn Boucher and Lillian Schmidt-received all-state recognition. To qualify, students have to place in the top 20 percent of four events.

Rugby speech coach Kyle Vareberg said that what they started this year will continue into next year.

Vareberg said next year the team will travel to more Class A and National Forensics League-competitions.
