Just Saying...

September 4, 2015
Joseph T. Pelt - Tribune Editor , Pierce County Tribune

If I hear one more time from a talking head, or from an old-time politician who hears a new idea or an outside the box thought, but automatically dismisses it out of hand because it has never been done, I am gong to implode. All you have to do is look skyward and remember July 21, 1969, when Neil Armstrong took the first steps on the moon. It shows us that is anything is possible, if you put your mind to it and your heart behind it. If you can dream it, you can do it.

Where have we lost our way in this country? Remember a time that we thought anything was possible? Why do we now have such a defeatist attitude? Why do we not still believe in American exceptionalism? Is it possible that our government feels they can better control the populace if we feel we are victims rather than winners? Are we becoming a nation of individuals who would rather live on their knees and be taken care of rather than stand tall and try to make this a prosperous America?

The one thing I do know is if someone truly believes in himself or herself, he or she isn't afraid to try. Know that sometimes you may win and sometimes you may lose, but you never stop trying to make things better.

I say enough is enough! If you do not love this country enough to try, then just lie down and be a victim, but do not get in the way of the people who will not let this country fundamentally change. Those of you who are too self-absorbed to care about the fate of this country, too lazy to care or too scared to stand up for what you believe, you have lost. I have seen the enemy and sadly they are amongst us.
