FSA Seeks Nominations

Nominations for candidates to run for a position on the Pierce County Farm Service Agency Comittee representing Local Administrative Area (LAA) #2 are now being accepted. This LAA includes the townships of Barton, Dewey, Ness, Christenson, Meyer, Jefferson, Tuscarora, Reno Valley, Sandale and Balta.

If you live in LAA #2 and are an owner, operator, tenant or sharecropper in a farm or ranch, you are eligible for nomination. You can nominate yourself or another producer to run for a seat on the committee. Nominating petitions must be submitted or postmarked by Aug. 3, 2015.

Voters for LAA #2 include those who have an interest in a farm or ranch as either an owner, operator, tenant or sharecropper. In addition, spouses, if listed on a property deed, are eligible to vote. Beekeepers and wool growers are eligible if they have pollination contracts or agreements and/or leased gazing rights with a farmer. Partners of a joint venture or general partnership with an interest in a farm or ranch in the LAA are also eligible to vote. And, a person not of voting age but who supervises and conducts the entire farming operation on an entire farm is eligible to vote.

Important dates for this year's election

Request nomination forms from the local FSA office and begin making nominations

Aug. 3: Last day to file nomination forms with the FSA office

Nov. 9: Ballots mailed to eligible voters

Dec. 7: Last day to return voted and signed ballots to the FSA office

Jan. 1, 2016: Elected committee members/alternates take office.

The Pierce County FSA Office will be holding an information meeting on Wednesday, July 8, at 10 a.m. to discuss the election process. Contact the FSA office if special accomodations are required.
