Mastering Skills For Now and For Life

May 15, 2015
Pierce County Tribune

On Wednesday, May 6, 2015, Dakota College at Bottineau held their annual High School Business Tournament. The Business and Information Technology Departments of Dakota College at Bottineau sponsored the tournament. The tournament is to test students in computer keyboarding, accounting, general business/personal finance, and general computer knowledge. Tournament contacts were Colette Schimetz and Diane Keller.

Rugby students fared very well in this year's event with the Rugby JH/High School tournament winners as follows: The Keyboarding (individual Event) Rugby's own Maria Blessum came in 1st Place while Rugby's Lilli French placed 2nd. In the Keyboarding (Team Event), Maria Blessum and Lilli French from Rugby teamed up and took 1st place. In accounting Brady Fossum placed 2nd , and in General Business/Personal Finance category Rugby's Jacie Lovcik also placed 2nd.

When we asked Paola Trottier how these skills translate later in a student's life Paola stated, "These are not just skills for later. What these kids are learning now translates into a better all-around student now." She continued " Whether it is keyboard, accounting or general business the skills it hones is common sense, analytical thinking and a since of competitiveness especially at these types of competitions. It not only prepares them now to be the best students they can be and gives them a base of skills that they will use years down the road. "
