Just Saying: To Our Mothers, Happy Mother’s Day

By Staff | May 8, 2015

The most beautiful word one can utter is “mom”. It is a word full of hope and love. It is a sweet and kind word coming from the depths of the heart. The mother is everything she is our consolation in sorrow, our hope in misery, our strength in weakness, our light in the darkest of times. She is the source of love, mercy, sympathy, forgiveness, and understanding.

Everything that we know speaks of the “mother” of life. Mothers are to us like the sun is to earth. As the sun does, a mother gives the sustenance of warmth; and as the sun never leaves the earth, being always nestled within the cosmos. Our mother never leaves our existence, she is always there as a thought, a moment of time that always resonates within our heart. And, as the Sun is nestled above, even as night puts the earth to sleep to the song of the sea and the hymn of waves embracing the shore. So will the lilt of our mother’s voice always sings in our heart as a lullaby of times that were and with hope of what time may bring.

Mothers are not rare to find. Whether you are reading this or as I write this, it is a testament that we had a mother. Mothers comprise a bundle of emotions that sometimes defy reason. Mothers have a special walk, a smell, an essence that is as unique as a single snowflake in a winter storm. I can close my eyes and remember a time when I was young and sick in the nurse’s office at school. Tears were rolling down my cheek and nothing could suppress the pain that pounded in my head. In a moments notice, I heard clicking of heels on a tile floor and as the clicking sound got louder my pain eased, my scowl turned to a smile. Because, as only a son could know, the clicking sound was my mother coming to see me. As the door opened my world walked in, my mom stood before me ready to make everything better.

So this goes out to all the mothers who stayed awake all night with their sick child, no matter the age, repetitively uttering those compassionate words, “It’s OK honey, Mommy’s here.”

This is for all the mothers who take their children to and from practice in all seasons, who run carpools, make cookies, sew costumes for whatever the occasion.

This is for all the mothers who show up at work with milk stains on their outfit and wear it as a badge of honor.

This is for all the mothers who cannot restrain the tears of hope from trickling down their cheeks when they hold their children thinking about what can be.

This is for all the mothers who refuse to give their children junk-food, especially before dinner, just to keep them quiet.

This is for all the mothers who watch their children perform and no matter the quality of the performance exclaim to themselves and to whomever will listen “That’s my child”.

This is for all the mothers who take the time to teach their children life lessons, when it would be easier just to led it slide.

This is for all the mothers who learn modern math so they can help their child with a homework project

This is for all the mothers who learn to text so they can stay in touch with their busy children.

This is for all the mothers who keep a light on for a child that has gone awry.

This is for all the mothers who allow their young children the space to succeed or fail in a world that will always challenge them.

This is for all the mothers whose heart pounds in their throat when a phone ringing at 2:00 a.m. awakens them.

This is for mothers who allow their children to spread their wings when it is more instinctual to hold them tight.

This is for the mothers who have the strength to be honest with their children about life when it would be easier to fib.

This is for the mothers who do without just so her children can have what they need.

This is meant for all mothers. The young and aged alike. For working mothers and housewives. For married mothers and single mothers. This is for mothers where money is not a problem and those less fortunate. This is for all moms. And, this is for my mom who made me who and what I am. Who gave me the confidence to take on any task no matter the circumstance. Who taught me that anything is possible with hard work, dedication, and a belief that what you can dream is how you can live. To my mom and all moms; I Wish You A Very Happy Mother’s Day!!
