More Than A Banquet, A Dedication To A Heritage

April 10, 2015
Pierce County Tribune

The Rugby FFA Chapter held its 81st Annual Parent-Member Banquet Thursday, April 2nd in the Tilman Hovland Auditorium. During the course of the evening many FFA members were presented with awards and scholarships. The Rugby FFA inducted Mr. Tom Teigen into the Rugby FFA Hall of Fame, and the evening was capped off by comments from our banquet speaker, Mr. Shaun Sipma. The purpose of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

Mr. Sipma's address was both inspiring and motivating, encouraging the members to do their best, take a chance and get involved in their communities and make a difference. He related several of his personal experiences related to his involvement covering the Minot flood and his work with Farm Rescue.

The Rugby FFA Chapter annually inducts a member into the Rugby FFA "Hall of Fame" for the contributions they have made to the chapter over the years. The member who is inducted into the Hall of Fame has the banquet dedicated to them. This year the banquet was dedicated to Mr. Tom Teigen, Mr. Teigen served as the Rugby FFA President in 1965-66 and then was elected the ND State FFA President in 1966-67. Mr. Teigen was also active in crop judging where he earned high individual and his team was named state champions. His involvement included many other things including attending both state and national FFA Conventions.
