Speech competes at Berthold meet

Season at halfway point before regionals

February 27, 2015
Pierce County Tribune

The Rugby Panther Speech Team traveled to Berthold on February 21 for their Lewis and Clark Invitational Tournament. In attendance were 20 various teams stretching from Williston to Garrison to North Star. Competition came from all around. This was, by far, the largest tournament of the season. With so many new schools and students, the competition was going to be intense and different.

And yet, Rugby High School came out on top, placing first in the tournament's sweepstakes competition. Rugby was followed by North Star and Ray respectively.

The day brought out the best of the Panther speakers. Of the 14 varsity speech events, the Panthers took home points in 13. Eleven competitors took home a top three finish; the Humorous Duo of Darby Deckert and ReeAnn Christianson took home gold with their interpretation of "The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza" by Don Zolidis.

Berthold marks a halfway point for the Panther speech team. Only four invitational tournaments separate the competitors from the Region IV tournament to be held April 11 in Cando.
