Donate, participate in Red Kettle campaign

By Staff | Dec 5, 2014

As I sit and reflect on the Christmas Season I think of what we can do to make a difference in the lives of others. There are so many folks out there who could use a little something to brighten their days. I look to the Red Kettle of the Salvation Army as a way ANYONE can help out it does not always need to be monetary but time also makes a difference. This year as in past years I am again struggling to get volunteers to help ring bells at the Red Kettle. I know we all lead busy lives and find it hard to fit one more thing into our day, however do we have an hour? Or two? I think we can all say we have a bit of time we could spare to help others.

Over the years, Pierce County has assisted travelers who have broken down and needed temporary shelter and feeding. Funds have been used by the Salvation Army to purchase drinking water and power-ade for our volunteer fire fighters. They have also purchased several hundred dollars worth of items and donated them to the Rugby food pantry. School supplies have been purchased and given to Wolford, Ely, Little Flower and Rugby High School. Your local Salvation Army has also assisted Rugby citizens when displaced due to fire, flooded basement and time of emergencies. Money raised in Pierce County stays in Pierce County to assist our citizens and travelers.

I am asking for you all to take a look at your busy Holiday schedule and see if you can fit in a little time to make a difference. Volunteers can ring the bells at any time. We have a kettle set up at Shopko and another at Leevers. We are lucky here in Pierce County that they allow us to be inside the building to ring the bells, so weather is no excuse. We also have table top kettles set up around the community – both Cenex locations, Pizza Hut and Subway – remember to put some lose change in these kettles if you are able. Please call me to schedule a time at 701-208-0773. Remember this is the Season for Giving. Thank you and Merry Christmas to you all.
