McClintock named Athlete of Month

Rugby High School graduate Jack McClintock was named Wolters Kluwer Financial Services Athlete of the Month for September at St. Cloud State University.

McClintock, a freshman golfer, was the male recipient of the monthly honor at SCSU, which has other fall male sports, including football and cross country.

McClintock shot a 2-over par 144 to tie two others in third place through the first two rounds of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship, played Sept. 29-30. The tournament concludes with two rounds in April.

Bobcats struggle on road trip

The Bismarck Bobcats of the North American Hockey League, a team with two former Bottineau-Rugby Braves, struggled in consecutive weekends at Alaskan teams.

The Fairbanks Ice Dogs won 3-1 and 3-2 games on Oct. 3 and Oct. 4, respectively. The Bobcats (4-6) broke a three-game skid with a 4-1 win at Kenai River on Oct. 10. The Brown Bears answered with a 5-2 win the following night.

In the second loss to Fairbanks, 2014 B-R graduate Harrison Aide scored two minutes, 17 seconds into the game. Bismarck added a power-play goal later in the period, but failed to score again as the Ice Dogs netted one in the second and two in the third.

B-R graduate Cody Longie (2013) finished the win over Kenai River with a +3. The Bobcats scored in the first period and added three in the second. In the following evening’s loss, Aide scored a second-period goal to give Bismarck a 2-1 lead. Longie assisted on the team’s first goal.

The Bobcats sat in fourth place in the Central Division, tied with Brookings (S.D.) with eight points, through games played Oct. 11. Longie is tied with three others for second on the team with five points. He has five assists and is +2 on the year. Aide is tied with four teammates at four points with a pair of goals and two assists. Aide is at -1. Longie has served the only two penalty minutes between the former Braves. Aide is tied with two for third on the team in shots with 21.
