7-19-14 Letter to the Editor

July 18, 2014
John Paul Bednarz, Rugby , Pierce County Tribune

Today, I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth. Today, I am 86 years old and was able to renew my North Dakota Driver's License for another four years.

For the past 60 years or more, I have been able to maintain my independence and "come and go" as I pleased. The privilege of having my Driver's License gives me the ability to maintain my freedom. It is the same freedom that I fought for in World War II, the Korean War and Viet Nam. The fact that I am able to drive at the age of 86, makes that freedom a reality. At my age, when everyone around me wants to treat me like an old man, I am very happy to be able "to come and go" as I please and am able to play a definite role in our society today. It makes life worth living. Thank you, North Dakota Department of Transportation for giving me my freedom!

Now, if I could only get back the 1995 Dodge Dakota pickup truck with its manual transmission that I had years ago, I would really have made it.

- John Paul Bednarz,

Rugby
