As with previous recipients of the Rugby Area Chamber of Commerce's new Volunteer of the Month award, the latest will come as little surprise.

The recipient of the award for the month of May is Betty Triplett.

Triplett, a manager at Ramsey Bank in Rugby, volunteers with the Rugby Lions Club, Senior Meals, North Dakota Amateur Hockey, Northern Plains Amatuer Hockey, Daryl Kuhnhenn Memorial Ride, Pierce County Fair, Prairie Village Museum and Friends of the Lyric.

"Maybe it goes back to when I was a little girl," Triplett said. "I wanted to join the Peace Corps."

Triplett, 64, has been with both Lions Club and Senior Meals for more than 25 years and volunteered with hockey organizations for 33 years. She remembers her parents having a strong nature to help others.

"They never said no," Triplett recalled. "If somebody wanted help, they dropped everything they were doing and helped. Nobody was ever turned away."

Though the bank name has changed often, Triplett has worked in the same location for 40 years come September.

Triplett, who plans to work at least one more year, shares her volunteerism with her employees. The Ramsey Bank trio of Sandy Wolf, Karen Teigen and Triplett spend one night a month volunteering at the Lyric Theater. Teigen said Triplett has a knack for helping out.

"You need people to give up their time and Betty does that," Teigen said. "She's just willing, that's her nature. And I think she has fun doing it."

Said Wolf: "She has a fun personality and everyone enjoys talking to her. She enjoys helping people."

Triplett has three grown sons, who are married, and a total of seven grandchildren.
