Consider becoming a foster parent

May 16, 2014
Amy Gray - Minot PATH Director , Pierce County Tribune

As Western North Dakota explodes with growth, the number of families in crisis is also exploding. In the past two years, the number of N.D. kids in foster care has risen by 274 youth! Right now, there are over 1,300 N.D. kids in foster care. So many times we are asked, "Is there really a big need for foster parents in N.D.?" The answer is yes, it has been yes for many years already, and given the above numbers there should be no doubt that this is a serious situation we are facing right here, right now in our local communities.

May is National Foster Care Month. Foster parents in our communities are making a difference every day, one child and family at a time. Please consider joining them, consider taking a leap of faith and opening your home to a child in need. While foster parenting may seem to be a daunting task, our foster parents will say that it simply involves caring about kids, wanting to make a difference and giving their time and energy to something they believe in. And with all the changes in western ND that seem beyond our control, this is one very direct way to make an impact and be part of a solution.

While we wait for the infrastructure and the funding and the services to catch up to the growth we are facing, these kids can't wait. They need caring people willing to jump in right now to make a difference. They need a chance to grow and heal in a safe place, with caring people who aren't afraid to take a risk and reach out to families in need. Can you be one of these people?

Call us today to talk about what foster parenting is really all about and the many different ways you can join us in helping these kids. Want to talk to someone who truly understands? We have amazing foster parents throughout Western North Dakota who would be happy to share their stories with you. Just call, just ask, take a risk and find out what amazing things can happen when you do.

Sincerely,

Amy Gray, PATH Minot Area Director
