Mattern awarded Shively Memorial Scholarship

April 18, 2014
Pierce County Tribune

Christy Mattern of Rugby has been awarded the Carol Shively Memorial Scholarship by the Good Samaritan Health Services Foundation. Carol Shively was a dedicated nurse assistant when her life was tragically cut short. She was studying to become a nurse. Carol's personality and excellence in care were a positive influence for her coworkers and those she cared for at Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby. A scholarship fund was endowed through contributions by Carol's family and friends. Its purpose is to assist qualified persons who wish to further their education in pursuit of a nursing degree.

The Foundation is pleased to present the scholarship to Christy Mattern. She aligns with the intent of the scholarship so well. Christy grew up locally and graduated from Rugby High. Since 2011, Christy has worked at Haaland Estates as a CNA and then LPN. She currently serves as an RN for HAMC's acute care and Haaland Estates. She has completed her LPN and Associate Degree of Nursing and is now pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing through Minot State University. Her plans are to continue with even further education and remain working in our rural area.

One $500 scholarship is awarded annually. Applications are due Feb. 1 each year and available on the Foundation portion of the HAMC website or can be obtained by contacting the Good Samaritan Health Services Foundation.
