RHS to hold Fine Arts Night

February 28, 2014
Pierce County Tribune

On May 29, 43 Rugby High School students will venture to Minneapolis for a weekend of culture and art. To assist in the finances of this trip, the students are putting together a Fine Arts Night for March 18. The event is an opportunity to enjoy the artistic talents of Rugby's students, and will blend the arts together for an evening of entertainment. Fine Arts Night will showcase student art, small band and choir ensembles, and a glimpse of the talented speech team.

Students in grades 9 through 12 from five fine arts organizations at Rugby High School are traveling 450 miles to partake in an artistic and cultural experience. Members of RHS choir, band, and art, as well as participants from the one-act ensemble and speech team are preparing to watch experts in their craft as a way to learn and grow as artists.

Several stops are part of the trip, including a performances of the Broadway musical "Sister Act" at the Orpheum Theatre, "The Little Mermaid" at the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, and a St. Paul Chamber Orchestra concert at the Wooddale Church. Students also will visit the Walker Art Center, the Art Institute of Minneapolis and the Sculpture Garden.

Junior Darby Deckert, a member of the RHS band, one-act, and speech, is excited to go on this trip. "It is a great way to expand my cultural experiences," Deckert said.

In total, this trip will cost each student roughly $260. Even though some fundraising has been done, the kids still need a little help.

Please help students attend the trip. During the Fine Arts Night, many chances will exist to help send these students to Minneapolis. During the performances, selected art pieces created by our RHS art students will be auctioned off, and the money will go directly to the student who created the work. Free will admission and concessions will be served. There will also be a donation table set up in the commons area.

Mark it down on the calendar: RHS Fine Arts Night on March 18 at 6:30 p.m. at Rugby High School. Deckert said it clearly: "You won't want to miss it."
