Fair board fundraiser a success

February 14, 2014
Bryce Berginski - Tribune Reporter , Pierce County Tribune

The Pierce County Fair Board estimates their well-attended dinner and auctions Saturday evening pulled in five figures.

The board estimates that 240 people came for dinner. Most of them stayed for the auctions, and a handful stayed for the "Not-so-Newlywed" game. The board estimates that over $10,000 was raised, and about $800 of it went to the Rugby Fire Department for fireworks-related equipment.

Board member Don Jelsing said that some big ticket items included a dental care package from Joy Dental Design, an NDSU football helmet, a rifle and a pheasant-etched propane grill.

Jelsing said a good turnout contributed to the event's success, as well as the appeal of a wide variety of items for auction. He said for next year the board wants to improve the timing between events so that they run smoother.

The board also discussed at a meeting Wednesday the possibility of lessening or cutting out sausage from next year's dinner due to cost concerns.
