Hamilton signs with Jamestown football

February 7, 2014

Rugby High School senior Chris Hamilton signed a letter of intent to continue his football career at University of Jamestown beginning in the 2014 season.

"I went on a visit there and I liked it a lot," Hamilton said. "The campus is pretty small and that's what I was looking for. The coaches were very nice. They want you to be a student first and athlete second and they want you to focus on getting your degree."

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound wide receiver hauled in 611 yards and three touchdowns in his final season with the Panthers. As a junior he scored nine times. Hamilton is a two-time, second-team all-state and all-region selection.

"Success and tradition have long been staples in Rugby," UJ coach Shawn Frank said in a press release. "Chris is a multi-sport athlete who embraces competition. He has great size and length, two qualities we look for in a wide receiver. He is also outstanding in the classroom."

The Jimmies graduated three senior receivers, giving Hamilton a shot at playing as a freshman.

"The offense is similar to what we did this year and they send receivers deep a lot and that's what I like to do," he said.

Hamilton, the son of Mark and Sue Hamilton, plans to major in business.
