Rugby shouldn't have 'big city problems'

February 7, 2014
Marian Askim, Minot ND , Pierce County Tribune

I have always been impressed with the nice evergreen entrance to Rugby, both from the east and the west. After I had family settle there I got acquainted with the town and was even more impressed. I have enjoyed your Historical Village and your Pierce County Fair, your Tour of Homes, your lovely golf course and your great walking paths. Your Village Arts group has brought wonderful plays and concerts to the community, and to the parks in the summer. I have attended your churches, activities in your schools and enjoyed your cafes, especially my daughter's Solid Ground Coffee cafe.

You have a wonderful small town, but now you have been hit with a "big city" issue. My dear little grand-dog was shot and killed on their own (her sister's) property. It is unlikely Rugby would have the wherewithal to resolve or rectify this terrible act. Even so, our furry little friend, Chloe, is gone. I won't be greeted by that dear little dog again. I'll still be visiting Rugby, but it won't be the same. Your small town doesn't need "big city" problems like random shootings. It has left a scar on your fine community... so very sad.

Marian Askim,

Minot, N.D.
