Bonnie Gronvold receives state educator award

Bonnie Gronvold Smith, who teaches YV TECH's Physical Therapy Technician program, in Yakima, Wash.,received the 2012-13 Washington State Outstanding Career and Technical Educator Award.

The award was presented to Smith at the Washington ACTE Summer Conference held last month in Yakima, Wash.

The purpose of the award is to recognize career and technical educators who have provided significant contributions to professional associations and career and technical education programs for youth and/or adults in their fields and/or communities.

Recipients of this award have made significant contributions toward innovative, unique, and novel programs; and/or improvement, promotion, research, or development of programs of career and technical education.

Outside of the classroom, Smith is the Health Science Career Technical Educator (HSCTE) President, is a YV TECH CTE administrative intern, and is actively involved in the SkillsUSA, WCTSMA, and HOSA Career and Technical Student Organizations.

She has been a Washington ACTE member since 2006 and serves on the Washington ACTE Professional Development Committee and as an Executive Board Representative for the HSCTE section.

Bonnie is the daughter of Wayne Gronvold and the late Paulette Steber of Butte, Mont. She is also the granddaughter of Dorothy Fosness Gronvold and the late Randolph Gronvold, formerly of Barton, N.D.

She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Whitworth College, Spokane, Wash.

Bonnie has been awarded a trip to Washington DC to meet with other career educators to share knowledge.

While in DC she will be visiting with her local representatives about the importance of technical education.
