Firefighters to be honored at Devils Lake Speedway

On September 14 and 15, 2013, representatives from a dozen area fire departments will be in the limelight at Devils Lake Speedway as they are honored for their service and showcased during a special race of their own.

At this firefighter appreciation event, firefighters from the Carrington, Lakota, Grafton, Langdon, Rugby, Wales, Grand Forks, Devils Lake rural, Michigan, Mayville, McVille and Crookston departments will be honored. One representative from each department will also get the chance to showcase his/her talent behind the wheel, as they race the others for a chance to win cash prizes to be used by their fire departments.

North Dakota State Fire Marshal, Ray Lambert, will speak during the opening ceremonies, which will kick off the event Saturday at 6 p.m. Races will start at 7 p.m., and include Pure Stock Nationals, Legends, Lightning Sprints, Hornets, Circle track Mini Trucks, Winnipeg Super Trucks, and of course, the Firefighter Challenge Race.

Race. Large inflatables from Games Galore will offer free entertainment to kids of all ages both days.

The R.O.T.C. color guard from the University of North Dakota will be present, and the Air National Guard is preparing to do a flyover during the festivities. Opening ceremonies will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, with races following

at 5 p.m. Each day, one lucky fan will also have a chance to win $100,000, other cash prizes, or a trip for two to Las Vegas, during the High Fives Moneybags event.

Ray Lambert said. "I truly am honored to be part of it."

Local firefighters volunteer their time and skills to ensure the safety of residents in their communities. Take the time to honor, support and show appreciation to these people during this premier racing event at Devils Lake Speedway.
