Good Samaritan Health Services Foundation Director Paul Schaan presents Lila Harstad with a plaque for her nine years of service on the GSHSF board.

Harstad was honored for that service recently at her final board meeting.

Paul Schaan, with the GSHSF, said Harstad was an ideal board member.

"Lila was the type of volunteer board member anyone would love to have on their board," he said. "Always engaged, hands-on and effective at supporting Foundation projects and events which raise money for the hospital, clinic and Haaland Estates. She actively participated in many things including our Creations Auction and annual Charity Golf Classic. Her role in the community as a publicity coordinator and event promoter is well known. She is a real asset to the Foundation and Heart of America Medical Center."

Harstad was asked to serve on the board initially by former Foundation Director Sandy Shively.

She said the nine years on the board has been a great experience, an

"I have always been active in promoting our community and this was an opportunity to bring my experience to this board," she said. "The Foundation serves the interests of the hospital and the hospital is an important part of our community. I learned the purpose and workings of the foundation and the importance of numerous projects, fund raisers and various other interactions with the hospital."

Harstad said her proudest achievements include helping to continue to grow the foundation via various fundraisers such as the creation auction, golf tourney and grants.

Just because her time on the board is over, Harstad doesn't plan on resting on her laurels.

"I currently enjoy participating in a number of community boards and associations," she said. "I will continue to serve the community of Rugby and the surrounding area in this way.
