Car show fundraiser set

When brainstorming ideas for The Lyric Theatre, the fundraising committee knew matching an event with Fast and Furious 6 was a natural fit.

Committee chair Jodi Kirchofner and the rest of the group came up with a car show, which is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 30.

The car show is expected to attract a number of street cars, classics, specialty cars, motorcycles and even a few hot rods.

"It just made sense," Kirchofner said of pairing the movie with the car show. "We have had some good response, but we're always looking for some more, though."

She said initially there was a deadline for entries, but said that has been removed and the show is taking on a "the more, the merrier," approach.

Main Avenue will be closed from Third Street heading north past the theater with cars lining the side of the street and motorcycles up the middle.

The car show will be voted on by the people attending, with a bucket at each car. People can drop money in to the bucket of their favorite car and the one that raises the most will be named the winner.

"We're opening it up to motorcycles and street cars," Kirchofner said. "I think that'll make for a nice variety."

All of the proceeds of the voting will go to The Lyric and Third Street Station will be providing brats and burgers for sale.

"They're going to donate a generous portion of what they make (to The Lyric)," Kirchofner said.

There is also a number of kids' activities planned, according to Kirchofner, with the movie scheduled to play later that evening.
